Consultant pathologist/specialist in pathology
The Pathological Anatomy clinic at SVS Esbjerg is advertising for two consultants/departmental doctors. The positions should be filled by ?????? or as per agreement.
Organisationally, the clinic is placed under the Department of Clinical Diagnostics and is located in Esbjerg. Esbjerg, the "capital of the West Coast", is the fifth largest city in Denmark and is situated at the North Sea in southwest Jutland in an area of great natural beauty with the Wadden Sea just around the corner. The sea port has the longest pedestrian precinct in Denmark, offers a great variety of cultural activities, interesting attractions and excellent shopping opportunities, and also has schools and universities.
The Department of Clinical Diagnostics consists of four units: the Clinic of Clinical Biochemistry and Immunology, the Clinic of Pathological Anatomy, the Clinic of Microbiology and Nuclear Medicine, and the Infection and Hygiene Unit.
The Department of Clinical Diagnostics serves the hospitals in the region as well as the primary sector (i.e. the GPs). SVS Esbjerg is one of the region's emergency hospitals and covers an area with a population of approximately 210,000, with a yearly performance of approximately 18,500 histological and 21,000 cytological tests and 20 autopsies.
The Clinic of Pathological Anatomy employs five consultants, two doctors doing specialist training and one doctor doing generalist training (one and three years).
There are 19 medical laboratory scientists linked to the clinic, one of whom occupies a managerial and one a teaching position. The clinic also employs six secretaries, three cleaning staff and two persons employed in the patient pick-up service.
The clinic has an automated immunohistochemistry laboratory. Flow cytometry and FISH have been implemented, with the possibility of including further routine examinations. In addition, we are currently setting up a PCR laboratory and we have a molecular biology laboratory attached to the clinic.
The clinic is actively involved in the hospital's research activities and is undergoing continuous development. We also want to be able to offer the newest methods of examination in the future so that we can also fulfil the needs of our clinical partners in connection with extensive international research projects.
We will be setting up a new laboratory unit in 2011/2012.
The consultants/departmental doctors are involved in all basic functions, but each also has his/her own fields of interest and areas of responsibility.
We are looking for an applicant with broad experience in the field of pathological anatomy and cytology. Please inform us of your particular fields of interest so that we can accommodate these if possible.
