Chaired Professor in Industrial Logistics
The Department of Business Administration, Technology and Social Sciences at Luleå University of Technology has about 200 employees and conducts research and education in the engineering and social sciences sectors. The department covers 18 research topics that are organised in four divisions: Human Work Science, Business Administration and Industrial Engineering, Innovation and Design, and Social Sciences. Industrial Logistics belongs to the engineering faculty in the Division of Business Administration and Industrial Engineering. It is an important undergraduate subject with a large number of students graduating with an MSc in Industrial Logistics annually.
We are looking to increase capacity and competence in the industrial logistics subject and are seeking a professor with duties as subject coordinator.
Industrial logistics comprises process flows and their management. Production planning, transportation planning, inventory control and efficiency analysis are the main specialisations. The subject includes the study of production and control of products. Its theories and methods are also applicable to services and facilities.
Employment as a chaired professor includes leading and developing research according to the established subject description and being responsible for education at all levels of the subject. Advancing collaborations with national and international research groups and interacting with the local community and industries is also important.
The duties of a chaired professor include working actively with external funding of research and doctoral studies and generally contributing to the advancement of the division, department, and university. Chaired professor duties are limited to six years with possible extension.
To qualify for employment as a professor, one must demonstrate scholarly expertise as well as educational expertise. Educational expertise and scholarly expertise are given equal consideration. Applicants must be able to demonstrate that they are leaders within their discipline and be able to present original and innovative scholarly achievements of good international standard. This is typically documented as articles in recognised journals with international circulation.
Educational expertise comprises expertise in planning, implementing and evaluating teaching. Professors must normally have undergone supervisory training and have been the principal supervisor for at least one doctoral student through to the student’s graduation.
