Information about the position: We are looking for one person in a position as a Head kayak guide and sales person at our base in Flåm. The position is permanent. From from May to September the main tasks will be related to being responsible for our base in Flåm, from October to March the position will entail sales work in Norway and abroad.
Position demands: The applicant MUST have: good interpersonal, communication and organisational skills, previous experience from outdoors activities and a desire to learn more about this, education through NOLS or similar organisation is regarded as a prerequisite, a valid First Aid qualification, a driving licence class BE, speak fluent English and some Norwegian. Applicant must also have experience in kayaking and guiding, including qualifications in kayaking to minimum 3 star level trough Canoeing associations such as BCU, ACA, NPF, EPP or similar national kayaking association. Possess good organisational and management skills. Speak other languages than English / Norwegian (i.e. German, French, Spanish, Russian). Intimate knowledge of the nature & history of Norway and the western coast fjord region is essential.
Wages: NOK 20 000 – 25 000 (App. Euro 2500 to 3000) gross pr. month depending on experience and qualifications. Housing is free.
Training: For the right person we will also offer Kayak and guide training as a part of the position. Courses to from 3 to 4 star level in the NPF (Norwegian Canoeing Association) will be included. All guides must take part in our Guide Training Program. This program focus on; Safety issues; Technical kayaking skills; Customer relations; Guide skills; Local culture and history; Environmental awareness.
Housing: Housing in a shared accomodation with other guides is included. All guides have their own room and share bathroom, toilet, kitchen and living room. In Flåm this standard of accommodation is valued to approximately NOK 4000 per month during the season. Be aware that cleaning of own and common rooms plus contributions to household expenses such as toilet paper & soap is expected.
