Information about the position: The Department of Pathology have two consultant positions vacant from the first of September 2012. The Department is one of the largest in Norway. In 2011, we received 39,000 surgical specimens, 46 000 cytology specimens and performed 380 autopsies. There are 23 consultant pathologists and 8 trainees in the Department. Seven of the consultants are employed by the University of Bergen with an honorary contract with the hospital. There are several active research groups and applicants with a research background will be encouraged to apply. We offer an attractive working environment in a modern department that has close connections to the University of Bergen. Within the Department we have a histology laboratory with subsections including immunohistochemistry, neuropathology, renal pathology and electron microscopy. There is also a molecular pathology section that is shared with the University of Bergen. In our Cytology section, we are introducing fluid based cytology both for gynaecological specimens and fine needle aspirates. The diagnostic work is divided between the consultants who are organised into 10 subspecialty groups. Each consultant participates in at least two groups depending on their own interest and expertise and what is required by the department.
Position demands: Must be a fully qualified pathologist and in a position to obtain specialist registration with the Norwegian Health Authorities (see www.safh.no). You must be willing to learn and master Norwegian language to a professional level within a time frame. All applicants also need to be fluent in English.
Wages: Approximately NOK 694000 + 342 000 gross pr. Year.
