Marie Curie Early Stage Researchers (PhD Student)
Area: Simulation of fire technical properties of products and construction barriers to support efficient product development in industry.

We need Five Early-Stage Researchers (ESRs) to carry out research with focus on creating computing simulation methodologies, tools and models to increase the usability of fire tests conducted on building products and construction elements which act as fire barriers (i.e. real fire tests in laboratory or pilot facilities) by fire properties simulations. More specifically, they will address the determination of the fire properties of building products, content and barriers, in order to assist companies, based on advanced computational models and predictions, to simulate and predict the fire performance of materials, products and structures earlier in their product development processes.

3 ESR will work on a methodology for fire behavior of building products, content and barriers by means of composite material data, solid material data and material data at micro scale.
Structure of the program:
The ESRs will be enrolled in a Doctoral Programme at LUND UNIVERSITY with courses concentrated in the initial 12 months of the Programme. The remaining 36 months will be spent at the Danish Institute for Fire and Security Technology and will be focusing on the individual PhD projects (training in research) and participation/ organization of shorter training events in on site or at one of our associated partners. All ESRs will obtain a doctoral degree from ULUND after completing their training (In order to complete the Doctoral Programme each ESR will need to accumulate 100 ECT.)
Each ESR will be dedicated to an individual research project but all individual projects have many common elements, and it is expected that the five ESRs work closely together in solving multidisciplinary problems and establish synergies for developing innovative experimental methodologies and computer models. Furthermore, the training programme has an emphasis on industrial problems and needs, with each ESR spending at least 50% of his/her time at DBI and additional short secondments to other private sector partners.
At the time of recruitment, the researcher must not have resided or carried out his/her main activity in Denmark for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to his/her recruitment under the project.
We are seeking highly talented, motivated and educated student with:
- A Masters degree or degrees fulfilling the eligibility criteria, see below.
- Candidates having an education in fire safety engineering or experience in the field of fire safety is a merit
- Excellent English skills (speaking and writing)
- Students must have a very good command of English and you may be asked to include proof of proficiency in the form of a TOEFL or IELTS test.
- Good oral and written presentation skills
- Excellent IT skills (Microsoft office, programming languages such as C, Basic, Fortran)
- Experience with FEM or CFD models is a merit
- Ability to work as a team
Basic eligibility for studies at graduate level is held by those who have taken a degree at advanced level, have completed course requirements of at least 240 ECT credits of which at least 60 credits at advanced level.
