Chaired Professor in Industrial Design
Luleå University of Technology has an annual turnover of more than EUR 160 million. Today the University has 1,600 employees and 17,000 students. Research is carried out in close cooperation with companies such as Shell, Ericsson, Scania, LKAB, Airbus, Volvo Aero, IBM and international universities. Research conducted within Luleå University of Technology has a turnover of more than EUR 90 million. Number of employees: 1,600.
We now wish to strengthen our research in Industrial Design by recruiting a chaired professor. Candidates should have a strong research background and a desire to purvey knowledge through experience and persistence. We seek a multidisciplinary designer who understands the human user, business and technology,with the skills and interest to enhance the research area, and lead and supervise PhD students.
To be qualified for appointment as professor is a person who has shown academic and pedagogical skills. Equal attention is devoted to the assessment of pedagogical skills as to the assessment of academic skills.
Applicants must show that s/he is among the leaders of their discipline and be able to account for original and innovative scientific activities of high international standard. Typically, this is documented in the form of articles in recognized international journals, or as anthologies, monographs.
Pedagogical skills include skills in planning, execution and evaluation of teaching. A professor must have completed training in supervision and typically have been the main supervisor for at least one graduate student until PhD defence and dissertation.
The following assessment criteria are applied for the position:
- Documented scientific skills
- Documented qualified pedagogical skills
- Documented experience of qualified supervision
We also value other personal qualities that are important for developing the research subject. Applicants must be able to teach in Swedish and/or English. Good Swedish is considered as a merit.
Other criteria (which are weighted equally)
- Proven skill and experience in the management and development of research
- Proven skill and experience in research funding
- Proven skill and experience in industrially based research
- Proven skill and experience in interacting with the surrounding community, including experience in collaboration with other research areas
