PhD Students in English and Didactics
Luleå University of Technology has an annual turnover of more than EUR 160 million. Today the University has 1,600 employees and 17,000 students. Research is carried out in close cooperation with companies such as Shell, Ericsson, Scania, LKAB, Airbus, Volvo Aero, IBM and international universities. Research conducted within Luleå University of Technology has a turnover of more than EUR 90 million.
Three PhD Students positions are open in English & Didactics. Applications in all areas of English studies are welcome, but those within applied linguistics, contemporary literatures in English and children’s literature will be favoured. The successful applicants will hold MA degrees or equivalent in English. Applications should comply with the fuller description available from the university website.
In accordance with Higher Education Ordinance 7 para 39 § applicants should demonstrate that their previous studies have prepared them for research. The successful applicants will hold an MA degree or equivalent which incorporates at 120 ects in English with a specialization in literature, linguistics or education. Applications are also welcomed from graduates with backgrounds in comparative literature and gender studies provided that their final degree work was completed in English. Excellent oral and written English skills are required and a background in teacher training is considered a merit.
The position requires the successful applicants to be based at the Department of Arts, Communication and Education, Luleå University of Technology, Sweden. The successful applicants will take part in the daily life of the department and may be asked to teach (max 20% of their contract).

- A Research plan (c.a. 5 pages including 1. Overview of the research area and methodology,
2. Materials 3. Research Questions 4. Timetable for the research 5. References)
- Copies of degree certificates and transcripts including course grades.
- A recent example of writing in English (c.a. 20 pages). Ideally this should take the form of a advanced level paper (‘D-essay’), a chapter from an MA thesis, article or other academic work.

Applicants will be assessed on their potential to produce high quality research, the quality of their English and their potential pedagogical skills. The successful applicants can be employed from either 1st February 2013 or 1st October 2013. Applicants should state their preferred start date in their application.
