The university college administration is located at Porsgrunn.

The Faculty for Arts and Sciences has a vacant permanent full-time position as Professor/Associate Professor with excellent expertise in climate change research from 1 August 2015 or later.

The position is attached to the Department of Environmental and Health Studies, and reports to the Head of the Department. The place of employment is Bø in Telemark, which is a beautiful mountainous landscape with exceptional access to a wide variety of field study locations and recreational activities, 1 hour drive from the coast and 2 hours from Oslo.

The Department offers a BSc program in ecology and natural resources, pollution and the environment and Masters program in nature, health and environmental protection and aquatic ecology. From 2016 the faculty also offers a MSc program in mountain biology together with academic partner institutions.

The Department also has the primary responsibility for Telemark University College's PhD program in ecology.

Job description
The position as Professor/Associate Professor will be linked to strategic research clusters in terrestrial and aquatic ecology and will play a key role in the further development of the PhD program in ecology. The succsesfull candidate must be relevant to the excisting research groups at the Department and have responsibility for research, research leadership and guidance on strategic areas in the network of researchers at TUC. Acquisition of external research funding is regarded as important, and it is expected that the successful candidate will contribute in such efforts.
An active and appropriate participation in the teaching and supervision duties of the Department at the BSc, MSc and PhD levels and in academic self-governing is expected.
Telemark University College considers distance learning and e-learning to be a priority area, and the successful candidate must be able to supervise and teach students using online tools and digital media.

Changes in the physical and chemical climate, along with increased human population and land use, are transforming ecosystems and pose significant challenges in the biosphere. The successful candidate will have proven research- and project experience in the field of climate driven ecological issues. We emphasize a broad and overall good ecological understanding, as well as good cooperation and communication skills. The candidate should be able to demonstrate experience, ability and willingness to work in an interdisciplinary team.

We are looking for candidates with a strong background in science focusing on climate research related to ecology. Ecological science comprises here environmental, behavioral and population ecology as well as biodiversity of plants, animals and microbes. Environmental ecology includes the interplay of lithosphere, hydrosphere and biosphere. Experience in ecological modelling related to the effects of climate change will be an advantage.

The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate an active professional network, and the ability and willingness for project acquisition.

For appointment as professor an academic level in accordance with established international or national standards is required. The applicant should possess pedagogical competence involving at least a half-year Post-Graduate Certificate in Education, or a course within university college pedagogy.

For appointment as associate professor (førsteamanuensis), it is required that applicants hold a Norwegian doctorate within the relevant field, or equivalent foreign doctoral degree or qualifications at the same level documented by scientific production of equivalent scope and quality.

Applicants, who at the time of appointment cannot provide documentary evidence of formal teaching competence, must acquire such competence within three years of appointement.

It is expected that newly employed staff in academic positions who do not already master a Scandinavian language will acquire knowledge of Norwegian at an equivalent standard to advanced level Norwegian test ("Bergenstesten") within 2 years.

Expected Start Date: 1 August or later
Salary The position as professor (code 1013) is remunerated by agreement. A position as associate professor (førsteamanuensis) (code 1011) is remunerated by salary grade 57-72, constituting NOK 482 800 - 639 500 per annum. Salary placement is dependent on seniority and competence. A statutory contribution will be made to the state pension.

Other information The Academic Appointments Committee is responsible for appointments to academic positions at Telemark University College. An expert committee will evaluate the applications. On the basis of the committee¿s recommendations, short-listed applicants will be called in for interviews and must be prepared to give a trial lecture.
