Area of research

You have a background in process simulation, and interest in learning technologies and simulator training. The goal of the project is to develop, test and evaluate a simulator learning platform and program using portable devices. The research disciplines include process simulation, simulator training, learning technologies, programming and interaction design.

The research will be conducted in collaboration with the research group in engineering education research at HiOA, research group in workplace learning at HiOA, Telemark University College, and Kongsberg Oil and Gas Technologies.

During the fellowship you will have a permanent office at HiOA in Oslo, spend three months on a secondment at Kongsberg Oil& Gas Technologies in Asker, and attend PhD courses (at least 30 ECTS) and participate in the PhD forum held once per semester at Telemark University College in Porsgrunn. The expected length of the fellowship period is 4 years with 25% compulsory teaching load on supervision of BSc/MSc projects.

Qualifications

Master’s degree in automatic control (automation), chemical engineering, process technology or energy technology with average grade B or better.

Practical experience in process industry is preferred.

Experience with process simulators is preferred.

Fluent in English written and spoken is required. One Scandinavian language is preferred.

Final project plan and PhD study plan for the fellowship period is required completed and acknowledged within 3 months after commencement.

Desired skills

Ability to work independently, systematically and efficiently in order to complete projects within given time limits

Communication and collaboration skills with colleagues and industrial partners (i.e. ability to work together with process operators, engineers and managers). Individual suitability will also be a qualifying criteria.

Good presentation, writing and programming skills

Remuneration

Salary is set in accordance with the Norwegian State Salary Scale, job code 1017 (wage scale 50 – 54 corresponding to 429.400 NOK – 458.500 NOK).
