Kalkulo is a Norwegian company that provides software for technical applications in the areas of Oil and Gas, Renewable Energy and Computational Biomedicine. Kalkulo is owned by, and co-located with, Simula Research Laboratory AS, a publicly owned research institute located outside Oslo, Norway. Simula is conducting ICT research in the fields of communication technology, scientific computing and software engineering. Simula's main objective is to generate new understanding and create vital knowledge about fundamental scientific challenges that are of genuine value for society.

Kalkulo is seeking applications for one or more software developers to strengthen our scientific programming team. We are looking for relatively recent graduates for the Scientific Programmer position as well as experienced candidates for the Senior position

Permanent Position


Kalkulo runs large and long-term software development projects together with visionary customers within our focus areas.

The Scientific Programmers will work as a part of Kalkulo's development teams, associated with specific projects. You will work on various programming tasks using mainly C++, but also Python, Matlab and Java. Depending on interests and qualifications, typical tasks will be related to data visualization, GIS tools, numerical algorithms, code optimization, parallelization, system design, database development, GUI development and software testing.

Your Profile

Kalkulo is looking for talented and highly motivated people with a strong interest in developing software solutions for scientific applications. We expect that you are self-driven and cooperative and enjoy working in an agile and creative environment.

The typical qualification is a Master or PhD in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics or Physics. But, candidates may also have a degree in an application area, in particular Geoscience, given that there is a strong background in programming.

Significant experience in C++ is expected, as this is the programming language we use most frequently. We hope that you also are also familiar with some of the following languages/tools: Python, Matlab, Java, C#, Qt, OpenSceneGraph, VTK, OpenGL, Cuda, OpenMP, MPI, OpenCL, GDAL, GEOS, GeoSever and ArcGIS/QGIS.

Finally, we highly appreciate if you have experience in, and are passionate about, one or more of the following topics:
- visualization and computer graphics
- high performance computing
- computer simulations and mathematical modeling
- geometric modeling and shape extraction
- seismic imaging and processing
- geographic information systems (GIS)
